Session VI

After uncovering the secret chamber, the party recuperates before proceeding. They use rope to climb the twenty feet down to the floor. They are immediately confronted by zombies. They take them down quickly.

Their path is interrupted by a chasm created by the flow of an underground stream. Arya and Jerran leap across. Arya lands with grace on the other side. Jerran however, is grabbed by the vine limb of a large root. The plant like thing is not of the living. It is pale, and parts flake in decay. It constricts Jerran, and leeches the blood from his body. Everyone jumps to his defense, but Flynn is grabbed as well. Flynn is dragged below into the stream and is burrowed in the mud. They slay the root, and frantically work to unbury the Halfling before he suffocates. Succeeding just before he was to expire.

Now safely on the other side of the chasm, the chamber appears to be an old temple. Symbols of Aroden (click hyperlink for more on Aroden) are about, an eye with wings. Further into the chamber a throne is seen, a skeletal undead lord fully armored with a burning great sword sits upon it. The monstrous being summons skeleton archers to his aid. Anselmus’s burning sphere quickly dispatches them. Jerran charges the thing leaping into a kick knocking it prone. However it quickly recovers, channeling energy, damaging the party. It points at Jerran and commands him to murder Arya. Arya dodges Jerran’s flurry of blows. With the spell broken Jerran continues his assault on the undead lord, taking the flaming great sword across the chest, before ending the things existence. Quinlan and Flynn heal the party, while Arya searches the throne. In a trap door in the throne, a bag of holding is found, with in it among other things is a book and ancient Taldor gold coins. The books doesn’t appear to be in any language they have seen, and they actually suspect it is written in code. Under the throne is a box, containing the remains of a human toddler. On the skeleton lord’s breast plate, they see that the wings of Aroden symbol have been filed away, and the eye has been bastardized to appear as the blood shot eye of Gyronna.

Returning to the surface, they take the Stag lord’s corpse to the spirit of Davik Nettle. They throw the body to the river, watching Davik materialize to drag it down into his drowning damnation. Shortly after Davik’s trident lurches from the river as a reward.

They make their way back to Oleg’s. The crowds there have formed a tent city. Keston Garess takes it upon himself to notify Restov. The party rests until Keston returns ten days later leading a caravan of wagons.

A new charter from Restov, has been issued:

Be it so known that the bearers of this charter, having delivered the northern reaches of the Greenbelt from the scourge of banditry, having provided detailed maps of the lay of the land, and having done no small amount of work in the exploration of said land and the culling of hostile monsters and the indigenous hazards, are hereby granted the right to rule. The nature and laws of rule are theirs to define, and the well being of this new nation is theirs to protect. In accordance for providing a stable nation to the south of central Rostland, let there be a generous stipend of funds, support, and advice provided to this fledgling nation as a token of Restov and Brevoy’s goodwill, such that future relations between kingdoms might be mutually beneficial. So witnessed under the watchful eye of the lordship of Restov and by the authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of the Dragonscale Throne.

Under the power of this charter the Kingdom of Greenmarch(Neutral Good) is founded.

The city Cinturon is be established at the site of the Stag Fort.

Jerran is appointed Baron.

Fort is appointed General.

Svetlana is appointed Councilor (Represents common people).

Flynn is appointed Grand Diplomat.

Jhod is appointed High Priest.

Anselmus is appointed Magister (Leads higher learning and magic).

Quinlan is appointed Marshall (rural safety).

Arya is appointed as Spymaster.

Keston is appointed as Warden(Leads city guard).

Oleg is appointed as Treasurer.

Auches is appointed as Headsman.

Quinlan questions Akiros as to why he let her go. He did not want to see her corrupted as he was. He was a Paladin of Erasitil, only recently commissioned, when he fell in love. The women was married, and when eventually found out, she claimed rape instead of facing the wrath of her husband. Guards attempted to take him in custody. He slew them instead. He sought her out to question why he was betrayed. Instead of questioning her though, he killed her in the heat of the moment. He escaped, and eventually he was running with bandits. He has done dark deeds, he never thought he could. He is offered a position to attend Jhod at the temple, which he accepts.

Building to begin next week.

Following the ambush on the trolls our heroes recover at camp. The rendezvous time comes and Perlavish appears from thin air. He greets the party in his eccentric manner, introducing his companion, Quinlan the Halfling druid. Quinlan is accompanied by her tiger Cringer aka Land shark. She is there to help. She was taken with her brother, Keiran, when the Stag Lord and his cronies came upon their camp. Her brother was beaten badly, unconscious, and nearly dead. She only got away due to a strange colleague of the Stag Lord. He wore the amulet of Erastil right next the Stag Lord’s own mark.

Quinlan fears the worst, and will help in anyway.

Jerran suggest that they enlist additional help from the Sootscale tribe kobolds. Sootscale agrees to offer Mikmek and four others to the heroes cause.

+46 days

The now strange ensemble of Human, Dwarf, Gnome, Halfling, Half-elf, Fairie Dragon, and Kobold move south to scout out the fort and plan the assault.

Once there they see that the fort is built on a cleared hill amongst light dense forest. The palisades and watch towers are built of wood over an older stone foundation. Observing the watchtowers they see that each of the three has a guard on duty. They notice that they only appear to be watching the southern approach. Much debate ensues, as to the best tact to use against the villainous bandits. Perlavish offers up his services to scout closer to the “undesirables”, he learns more details of the camp occupants as well as the pass code used at the door.

Arya and Jerran agree to deliver the liquor recovered from Kressle’s camp, in an attempt to get a closer look themselves. They use the pass code to gain entry, unaware of Kressle arrangement with the Stag Lord, unwisely attempt to extort payment. Realizing they may be pushing their luck, they begin passing out the booze to the bandits. Surprisingly, they refuse. The Stag Lord enters the courtyard annoyed by the commotion and is further angered to see his “spirits” being given away. He takes a bottle and chugs, when finished he noticeably appears calmer. He orders Arya and Jerran out, and not to return till Kressle can better train them on his requirements.

At nightfall, the Kobolds sneak close to the gate, setting the bear traps. Perlavish sets his fire-breathing dragon illusion on the fort, using fire arrow support from Mikmek and company to inflict real pain. Four guards stumble upon the traps.

Meanwhile the party moves to the north to make their assault from behind the fort. On their approach they learn firsthand why the watch towers were dismissive of the northern wall, when zombies climb from the ground. They fight off the first wave, and make it to the wall before anymore can make their way to the surface. Arya gracefully scales the wall and leaps across to the watch tower, taking out the bandit without issue. A comedy of errors ensues as Anselmus fails to emulate that grace and nose dives to the ground level below. The others follow, with Jerran, and Flynn taking to the towers with Arya. Fort and Quinlan fall to Anselmus. With the party strength spilt, Anselmus proceeds to the gate side of the fort giving away their presence to the remaining watchtower. The other bandits finally having seen through the illusion and chase away the kobolds return. Jerran and Flynn set their mark on the huge but dumb witted man named Auchs. Dovan sets his eyes on the comely lady Arya, throwing his daggers with deadly precision, as she slays the remaining watch.

Bandits are heard screaming as they set the owlbear free from his chains. The owlbear charges Anselmus, but Fort intervenes. The bear proves to be deadly though as Fort is knocked unconscious, very near death. Quinlan stabilizes him as Anselmus pours a potion down Fort’s throat. Arya leaps down to deal directly with the beast. The group endures finally slaying the beast. Dovan calls his remaining men to action against the group, leaving Auchs alone to deal with the Monk and the Bard. Auchs, while barely knowing how to spell his name, definitely knows how to swing a club. Jerran is being beaten badly, Flynn frantically casts healing to keep him from succumbing to the damage. Jerran manages to knock the man prone with a strike to the groin, turning the tide of combat.

The rest of the group manages to take out Dovan and company with little issue. Auchs, now alone, gives up; pledging himself to Jerran’s cause.

The party quickly regroups, enters the fort to locate the Stag Lord. They find him in his chambers in bed, awake but badly hung over. Fort charges and the remaining group surround him taking out the dastardly man. In the basement they find Keiran chained to the wall, deceased. He is not alone as Akiros, the bandit that helped Quinlan escape, is chained there as well, nearly dead himself. Fort locates a patch of stone floor that is obvious, to him anyways, to have been laid much later than the rest of the stonework. He breaks through, unveiling an underground chamber… To be continued.

Riding to the east the party steps in to a forest clearing hearing loud grunting sounds of an animal. Tuskgutter the Dire Boar, standing greater than 7 feet at his shoulder, charges out at our Heroes. Fort deflects his advance away while Arya and Jerran move into flank to make steak. Anselmus blasts away with the best of them, and Flynn sings his Songs of Inspiration. Fort takes grievous wound in his gut just before he himself returns the blow expecting to slay the swine. The raging creature continues on, seeing red, it ignores its own ailment. Lorig imbues Fort with power of Iomadae, giving him second wind to carry on. The boar, fast fading, is finished off by Anselmus’s casting. The smell of fresh bacon pervades all around. The party removes the giant beast’s head to gift to Vekkel.

+35

Traveling northward they discover an old ruin overwrought by the eons. Jerran spotting the reflection pool, center of the old court yard, rushes excitedly hoping for an opportunity to bath. Much to his displeasure muddied waters are not to his high sanitization standard. Investigating further, they suspect this is the old temple of Erastil that Jhod Khavkin pined for. Inside they discover much in dishevel, old pottery is broken across the floor. They find old religious texts they gather for safe keeping. Amongst the old tomes, there is a journal, nearing falling apart. Anselmus reads through the text, his comprehension complicated by the dated form of common and faded inks. The book tells the story of the Priest of the temple. It tells of a settlement falling in to chaos, plagued by cultist and evil fey. The priest ramblings seem to be losing faith, and he reaches out to other deities for salvation of the crumbling upstart settlement. Anselmus secures the diary to present to Jhod at Oleg’s trading post.

An unnaturally large bear enters the outside courtyard running towards the party as they exit the ruin. Fort intervenes to cut off the approach. Arya covertly approaches from behind the fallen columns, sticking her rapier through the bear’s kidneys. The full chaos of combat ensues, the party stand strong against the ferocious beast. Once slain the bear fades from being, transforming to a man before their eyes. The man’s corpse ages rapidly before them ultimately turning to dust. The reflection pool immediately shimmers, purifying itself. Attracted by the glimmering light of the pool, Flynn takes drank from the pool. He feels renewed from the stresses of combat. The party follows suit, each taking the time to fill their flask. Our heroes make camp here tonight, in the morning the pool remains clear, however the glow has faded.

+ 36

The next mourning the group departs camp westward. The terrain thickens to dense forest. From thirty feet back Arya notices movement amongst the trees ahead. On second look, they realize it was the trees themselves. Fort beckons the group back to give everyone time to safely dismount. They see this huge mound caked with plant life and mud come to life before them and slowly approach the party. They launch a deadly vile of alchemist fire towards this thing. It hits but the fire fails to take amongst the moist mud caked on its trunk. Realizing the flaw in the plan the party jumps to action. A tentacle comes out of its massive body and grabs Fort off of the ground, constricting the life force out of him. Lorig bravely jumps ahead healing Fort, in doing so, the shambling mound draws out another tentacle taking Lorig into his grasp. The party fights on desperately trying to free their comrades before they expire. Fort breaks free, Lorig calls on the strength of his goddess to keep on. Finally Jerran lays the fatal blow, the grip relaxes just as Lorig was near unconsciousness.

The party makes camp to recover. That night on Arya’s watch, she sees a massive red dragon approaching from the west of camp. The roar of the beast startles the rest of the heroes from their slumber. Everyone jumps in to a panic. Fort as he jumps up realizes his boots are tied together, nearly falling. Jerran lets out a laugh then approaches the beast, petting the thing as everyone else looks on bewildered. The illusion fades away, and high pitch laughter can be heard moving away in the distance.

+ 37

The next morning they head North. They wander on to a relatively fresh corpse nearly cut in half at the torso by a bear trap. They disable the trap, freeing the dead man. Lorig has the party set a funeral pyre.

+ 38

The next day, Fort’s horse rears up throwing him from the saddle. Fort lands safely. The horse falls prone, its leg smashed by the claws of a bear trap. Lorig saves the animal. The party finds five more of these traps, all unmarked. They take them for themselves, maybe to use at camp.

Later on, as they ride along Flynn starts dancing uncontrollably as they go. Jerran and Arya spot something suspicious. Back behind them lights start popping off. Ignoring the lights, Jerran sees the small creature, part cricket, part humanoid. Jerran greets the Grig, startling her as she did not expect to be seen. Next to her a Fairie Dragon materializes before them. Jerran communicates in Draconic, while Anselmus speaks in Sylvian. The dragonette impressed by the use of his languages introduces himself as Perlavish and his friend Tyg Titter-tutt. He apologizes with a giggle about their tricks. He claims this is their forest and they wish to rid it of undesirables. The party communicates they have similar goals, and rely stories of their own efforts to do the same. Perlavish was aware of the temple being cleansed and is very happy to meet those responsible. He tells the party about the Stag Lord and his fort off of Tuskwater Lake. Fort suggests that Perlavish could use the dragon illusion to assist them in ridding the area of the Stag Lord. Perlavish happily agrees, and will meet the party just north of the fort in six days.

+40

The party returns to Oleg’s to rest. They take note of the increase traffic of people passing through. Vekkel is there and happily receives Tuskgutter’s head. Handing over his bow as promised. Anselmus informs Jhod about the temple, giving him the recovered journal. Jhod immediately departs to begin restoring the scared place.

They head to Bokken’s hut to give him fangberries and buy potions.

+42

The party arrives at the rendezvous point early. The set cold camp and observe. The grasslands yields far sight lines.

+43

In the distance they notice the shadows of two large beings marching away westward. Arya sneaks out to get a closer look. She takes note of their large size as the beastly green things stand near 14 feet tall. She returns to pass word, not knowing what they were herself. The party immediately suspects they are trolls. They ride out to confront the dastardly things. Taking position from 500 feet behind, they launch volleys of arrows at them. The trolls turn to close the distant taken massive damage. Anselmus blasts them with fire spells once they are in range. The trolls substantially soften arrive in close range. Fort jumps on one, while Arya and Jerran flank the other. Flynn attempts to hypnotize, taking out half of his party allies while leaving the trolls untouched. Flynn realizing the error of his method breaks the spell, reverting to song. Anselmus blasts away, drawing the attention of one the beast. The party now definitively in control finishes off the gruesome things, taking their heads for good measure.

The evening opens with the party were we left them, camping in the Sycamore tree. They depart in the morning following Mikmek towards the Sootscale tribe village. Upon their arrival Mikmek vouches for them with the guard at the cave entrance and leads them safely past a series of pit traps. One of which had recently appeared to have been set upon. They pass through a room used for “worship”, there was a mural painted in ash and blood that resembled the statue recovered from the mites.

They eventually are lead to a common room where Chief Sootscales is accompanied by 12 of his fiercest Kobolds. The Chief speaks common much better than his cohorts, actually he speaks it much better than the bard…

The statue is presented to the Chief following the brokering of a peace deal. The Sootscale tribe has agreed to leave all human/humanoid settlements/farms under our heroes –cough cough, protection unmolested. Provided the same respect is granted them. The Chief additionally asked for assistance dealing with one last problem TARTUK! He spikes the statue Sharptooth on the deck destroying it, and then marches off to handle business. The party follows Sootscale to the adjacent chamber. He orders the two kobold guards aside and they comply. In the chamber the party sees Tartuk and a caged human. Then most of the party saw their eyelids. Fort, Thistle, and Slinky were the only ones that managed maintain wakefulness against Tartuk’s Deep Slumber spell. Fort and Slinky hacked at the sorcerer while Thistle drew dirty pictures on everyone’s face… uh I mean awakened them. Anselmus, coming to, engages Tartuk in a Sorcerers duel. At least I am sure that is how he will tell it. Regardless the result is the same, Tartuk is dust.

They release the human. He proceeds to tell the party how he came to be here (not really the GM did, because Derek failed to remember the 5 minute back story discussed on the phone the night before). Valarion also received the same charter as the rest of the party. He crossed up his schedule and showed up late. He arrived at Oleg’s a day after the party was last there. Oleg informed him that the group was seeking out Kobolds for bounty in the South. Valarion, trusting his mighty ranger skills, set out to locate the party. He did manage to track down the village. He also managed to fall in a pit trap and to be caged in chamber with a mad kobold sorcerer. We can count that as win, I guess.

Investigating the chamber the party finds Svetlana’s ring. They also find Tartuk’s journal. It turns out he was not a natural kobold at all. He was a gnome. His village was attacked by an ogre, while he was trying to cowardly escape, the roof collapsed on him and the ogre slaying them both. The village mistook him for a hero, reincarnating him. To Tartuk’s sorrow, he returned as a Kobold. Bitter by this development he proceeded to travel to kobold settlements supplanting the leadership, commanding the village to their doom and more importantly turning them yellow. He was well on his way to destroying the Sootscale tribe in this manner when the party intervened. He would have gotten away with too, if it hadn’t been for the meddling heroes.

The group accepts the Sootscale tribe’s offer to feast their new found liberation. They spend the rest of the day eating roasted rat, blacken frog, and steam slugs; yummy! The piss almost tasted like beer.

+10

The next day the party travels north to the suspected location of the bandit camp on the Thorn River. They travel by horseback across a river crossing at a lull spot in the rapids. As they move south they see an abandoned wagon. Thistle calls out the location of an archer about to put an arrow through Fort’s brain, just in time to put the party on proper alert. Bandits pour out from the trees to attack. Everyone manages to dismount with something that if you closed your eyes could be mistaken for grace. Except Valarion, he obviously mistook the ground for a beastly enemy, because he surely stabbed it good with his head. At this point, the party seriously doubts Restov’s vetting process in issuing these charters.

Combat ensues; Thistle entangles the northern approach, allowing for the martial types to hack down the bandits on their southern flank. Flynn finally realizes it is time to be useful again, hypnotizes the group closing in on the cloth wearing types. Jerran does what he does best, with a flourish he leaps 10 feet in the air to come down on an incapacitated foe, whiffing of course. It looked badass at least. Anselmus shoots off what seems like an infinite number of magic missiles and rays. Lorig, shows everyone the power of his god, cutting through baddies with his long sword. Valarion, finally shows everyone something, shooting arrows with a precision that suggest he doesn’t belong amongst this group. Fort, having dispatched the southern group, charges the withdrawing Kressle laying the final death knell.

Victory! The party investigates the camp, finding a note signed by Kressle addressed to Happ, directing him to deliver the liquor crates to the Stag Lord.

+11

The next day the party sets off on more exploration. They find Boggen’s fang berries. They also met Vekkel the pegged leg hunter. Vekkel relays the tale of Davik Nettle. Davik was a retired adventurer that settled in the Greenbelt. He built a crossing, at the Shrike River; a few months back a bandit calling himself the Stag Lord tried to demand tribute. Davik repelled the bandits, only to have them return that night burning down his house. His son escaped, while Davik chased down the brigands to the bridge itself. The Stag lord cut down the rope bridge from under Davik, sending him to a drowning death. Some say that Davik haunts the Bridge today, calling out for his “Tormentors”.

When the party asks Vekkel about his leg, he tells them about a great Boar called Tuskgutter, “The dastardly beast gored right through my leg, sending me to a premature retirement. If you fellows wander across him, bring his corpse to Oleg’s so I can feast on him.” He offers the bow on his back as an award.

+12

All head North to investigate Nettle’s crossing. They are indeed met there by an undead Arnold the governor ..um I mean.. Davik, calling out for his tormentors.

“Kill the Stag lord, and throw his corpse in the river. Do so or I will take yours instead, argggghhh”

The party agrees to do so, and Davik’s undead self, leaves them be.

+13

The group returns to Oleg’s. There they are introduced to Keston Garess, Flynn recognizes the name to be of minor nobility. He states that Restov is very satisfied with the group’s progress both with the bandits and the exploration. A package arrived with an award of 400 gold to help them along the way. He will also send Tartuk’s journal back as evidence that the kobold threat has been curtailed.

Furthermore, Restov has learned that the bandits are run by man called the Stag Lord. They believe that he is based to the far south. If he can be conquered an award of 5,000 gold can be attained. Additionally, with this new found stability, a new charter will be issued granting the right of settlement.

Keston also tells them of a Falgrim Sneeg. He was a sellsword in his service, before robbing Keston, and is believed to be in refuge in the greenlands. If he is brought back alive, Keston will give a masterwork weapon to each member of the party.

The ring is returned to Oleg and Svetlana. Oleg reiterates his appreciation and awards the 1000 gold credit as promised. Oleg and Svetlana then depart to have a quiet moment together; Svetlana eyes are wet with tears.

+34 days

The party leaves the next day exploring the country side. Many days of travel pass. They find an old abandoned gold mine; marking it for later exploitation.

They discovered the tatzlewyrm den dispatching them with ease and claiming their heads.

They freed a blood cougar that had fallen in pit trap.

In the forest the corpse of a dehorned unicorn is found. No other mark of harm discovered. It lays there undisturbed by growth of foliage or insects. A faint aura of Necromancy is detected by Anselmus by spell.

An old statue of Erastil is discovered in the forest.

A ruined building is found. Inside an old skeleton is nailed to the wall. It appears it may have been alive awhile after the time of impalement, due to the bone seemly healing around the spikes. On the wall a faded message appears to be writ in blood, “She failed me, she belongs to Gyronna now. I can not afford delay, my love. I will travel to our monastery on the hillside.” Nothing here appears to have been disturbed in many years. Lorig has never heard of this, Gyronna. Flynn knows her to be a minor hag goddess; cults of ill repute have been known to organize around her.

An unmarked grave is found under the careful stacking of stone. The party was satisfied to leave it be, until Flynn detected an aura of magic protruding from the gaps in the stone. They uncover a decomposed body, the aura coming from a ring made of green wood depicting an eel and frog locked together in the setting. It is identified as a ring of swimming.

They come across a boggard, a frog humanoid standing 5 feet tall, named Garuum. He keeps company with two slurks, toadish slimy slug creatures that Garuum keeps as a mount. They appear to live together in two ruined buildings of indeterminate origin. Flynn knows boggards to be quite mean by reputation. Garuum does not seem to have that same violent streak. When he sees the group he immediately throws up his hands, yelling, “Truce.” He doesn’t appear to know anything else in common. No one knows Boggard, Thistle switches to Sylvain, which Garuum is bit better versed in. They learn that he has claimed these dilapidated buildings as his “Kingdom” and wants nothing else. He was exiled from his clan, when he challenged the leader. Arya attempts to sneak behind him, when Garuum sees her he yells, “Truce!” again, as he takes guard. The group leaves him be. He does indicate to them that there is a temple to the North east and a mean boar to the east.

To the east the party steps in to a forest clearing hearing the grunting sounds of an animal….fade to black.

Thirty four days have passed in game since the group first arrived at Oleg’s in session one.

The Party earned 3,075 XP earning 3rd level. Everyone level up prior to the next session in two weeks.

+4 Days from initial arrival at Oleg’s.

The party decided, since they were shorthanded, to circle back from the believed location of the bandit camp, exploring northward and back to Oleg’s. At Oleg’s they find that a third corpse is dangling from the parapets, it is Happ, the bandit left to Oleg’s care. More importantly the guardsmen (Jhod Khavin, Jarvis Markell, Nathan Bogg, and Weric Donnerak) promised to Oleg from Restov have arrived. The group included a Priest of Erastil, Jhod Khavin. They are charged with guarding the fort.

Jhod mentions that there are rumors of an old temple of Erastil out there somewhere in the wilderness. Jhod wants to know if the companions come across the temple, he is very interested in attempting to restore it. Jerran senses that the priest is not completely forthcoming with something.

Over drinks, Jhod reveals that this area has been attempted to be settled before, always falling due to a number of rumored reasons ranging from Fey, cults, politics, and even dragons; if you put weight in such things. Fort also learns that Jhod was a priest of a small suburb village of Restov. He falsely accused a tanner’s son of being werewolf. He only learned of his mistake after the boy’s execution. The boy was not completely innocent, he was suspected because he had been stalking houses for burglary. Jhod seeks to restore the temple to make amends for actions.

The party presents the moon radishes to Oleg and Svetlana. Oleg gives a sly smile, Svetlana giggles a bit as she takes the sack of radishes inside…

Oleg offers the party 1000 gold credit at the trading post if the party returns him a head of a Tatzlwyrm.

He also has a note from Restov, the Swordlords have heard reports that the Southern Kobolds have been riled up as of late. If the situation is “calmed” in whatever way the party sees fit, you will be awarded with 800 gp.

From Oleg, some of the hunters coming in to the post have been complaining of a trapper to the west that has been leaving his traps unmarked. He also tells them of a hermit to the east that brews and sells potions.

+ 5 Days

The party finds the potion makers hut. He is an old senile man, with a nasty scar across his face. He sells the party two cure light wound potions, the last of his stock. He also offers the party a 50 percent discount if they replenish his fang berry supply (used for potions). The fang berries grow about 30 miles to the south around the banks of the thorn river. The man seems to lose “clarity” often, repeatedly asking Fort why he was there. He does relate the story of his scar. His brother cut him, and then escaped the guards south many years ago. He does not recall his own brother’s name.

+6 Days

Party moves south from there exploring as they go. They come across a giant spider’s den, after defeating it they find a corpse inside. It includes a crude map drawing indicating a “Claw” shaped tree on a small hill, there is an “X” drawn over. The map gives little context to its surroundings, however Jerran using an awesome geography check, believes it is to the south.

+7 Days

They find the tree and the cache of gear wrapped in a heavy leather cloak. Included are a wand and a spellbook. Anselmus identifies the wand of burning hands.

+8 Days

Travelling southwest the party finds an isolated old giant sycamore tree. Arya finds a secret entry into the tree. Once inside they learn that it is a mite lair. The party chops through most of them as they go; at one point Flynn earns his keep, by hypnotizing an entire encounter.

They find a kobold that is caged. He is Mikmek, he explains that they were trailing mites, that he witnessed them stealing goods from a big’ems camp. His group was following them because they are trying to recover their god’s statue, which was taken by the mites. If he fails to recover it, he will be turned yellow! They jumped the Mites, half of Mikmek’s group took the big’ems stolen goods home, he and the others tracked here to look for the statue. The party arms Mikmek and assist with the statue recovery.

Next there is a 30ft chasm in the root system of the tree, Arya spots a Huge Whip-tail Centipede down below. Anselmus cast an energy ray at it. The party fights this 15 ft long centipede from above. Arya uses vines to traverse to the otherside, nearly falling due to booby trapped handholds. Jerran leaps up suspending himself upside down in the vines over chasm in attempt to act as half elven bait, HE SUCCEEDS! The long combat continues until the centipede attacks and knocking Jerran unconscious, prompts an attack of opportunity from Fort, whom slays him. Jerran falls down the 20 ft. canyon rolling away from the corpse of the creature. Arya recovers Jerran, to find that the nearly dead monk is still grasping to life. The party heals him, give him the brass balls award and proceed. They find the statue following the defeat of the lead mite, which was mounted on a giant tick (ewww). The party agreed to return with Mikmek to the Kobold village.

Session ends….

Party earns 1400 xp each, gaining level 2.

Session I

SO here is my attempt to regurgitate what happened way back in session one, that I never recapped. I am sure there is stuff missing.

The party meets on the road from Restov on its way to the Greenbelt in the Stolen Lands. In Restov there was a call out for brave frontiersmen to accept charter to explore and enforce law in these outlaw lands.

Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged
by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and
authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the
Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel
within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration
should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and
west and sixty miles south of Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of
this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful
behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry
remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this
24th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov
and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of
the Dragonscale Throne.

Day one

The group heads to Oleg’s trade post. There they see it is built in an old abandoned fort. As they approach the gates, they immediately notice that they are hanging loose from their hinges, broken. From inside a repeating tapping noise can be heard. The party draws their weapons as they approach. Within the walls and the courtyard a woman exits a building carrying a nondescript sack that she promptly drops with a panic scream as she looks upon the armed squad standing in the courtyard. The tapping that set the party into alert stops, as a man nearing 40, is seen climbing down on a ladder from the roof. He demands that they identify themselves. The party realizing their error put away their weapons and tell the man about there mission from Restov. Oleg and Svetlana immediately perk up at that news. They had been requesting guards from Restov for three months now.

A group of bandits have been raiding them for months now. Led by a woman named Kressle and her lackey Happs. Oleg tried to stop them but they had twelve men with them. They took Svetlana’s wedding ring right off her hand, with her finger attached. The group concerned consult among themselves, realizing their exploration does not include acting as guardsmen. Oleg overhearing about the charter demands to see it. His mood turns sour again, pissed that the bureaucrats continue to ignore him, and now they look to be settling this area. Pissing him off even further. The party agrees to help in any which way they can. Oleg cheers up a bit, “Good, we expect them back any day now. That bitch Kressle doesn’t even bother to come now, leaving it to her mutt, Happs.”

Fort and Lorig repair the gate the best they can. Anselmus and Flynn take to the walls on watch. Thistle scouts out the countryside finding old tracks, possibly from he bandits previous comings. Jerran and Arya hide away in the storehouse. Nightfall comes and they camp waiting.

The next morning Happs comes accompanied by six men. The party wait hidden away, letting the bandits enter the courtyard, waiting to close off retreat by the gate. Happs impatiently screams out threats and obscenities, looking for Oleg to handover his goods. Oleg and Svetlana continue to hide away in the house. Flynn slams the gate shut as the party jumps out to surprise. They quickly mow down three men, and injure Happs before he turns to run. Happs curses realizing the gate has closed him off. He and the leftovers of his gang surrender calling for quarter. They execute the three remaining lackeys, leaving Happs for questioning. He spills the beans about the Thorn River camp. Kressle runs it and has about a dozen men with her. He draws a crude map. The party promises to spare him to the care of Oleg.

They leave out that day to explore in accordance with their charter. As they ride out, the scream of Happs can be heard. It doesn’t seem that Oleg’s hospitality is to his liking.

Heading east they come across an old hut, they knew from Oleg to belong to a potion brewer named Bokken. Bokken is a old man with a deep scar through his left eye. He scratches at it incessantly. He also seems to be senile. He offers the group potions just before asking them who they are for the third time. He manages to offer them a discount on his wares if they can retrieve fang berries for him before his mind wanders again. Fort asks about his eye, Bokken then babbles on, calling his brother a bastard, “Cut my eye, last time he was hitting on our sweet mother, Desna. Took off south years ago to escape the guards. We lived in Restov then.” Jerran ask for the brothers name, but Bokken doesn’t seem to remember, then begins to introduce himself again for fifth time.

Headed south towards the camp indicated by Happs, the party is ambushed by three worgs. Large vicious wolf creatures. They make quick work of the beasts before proceeding on. They ride on coming across a group of Kobolds eating in a radish patch. The party immediately takes arms, but Jerran intervenes and begins speaking to the small humanoid creatures in draconic. Remembering that Svetlana talked on about how great Moon Radishes were, he negotiates a share for the group to take. The kobolds surprised seem taken with Jerran. Their tribe is way to the south and they know they shouldn’t be here. They speak of a vengeful god named Sharptooth that would turn them, yellow!

End session…believe 900 xp was awarded then.
